POSTPONED DUE TO RAIN - NEW DATE SATURDAY JULY 1ST
Frederick Douglass, Buffalo Soldiers, artisans, musicians and historic reenactors will come together on Saturday, July 1st from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on the grounds of Middletown Friends Meeting, 453 West Maple Avenue, Langhorne PA to mark Juneteenth, the oldest known celebration commemorating the ending of slavery in the United States.
Dating back to June 19, 1865, Juneteenth, also known as Emancipation Day or Freedom Day, marks the reading of the Emancipation Proclamation, which had been issued in 1863, to enslaved African Americans in Texas. June 19 became an official Federal Holiday in 2021.
Visitors to the June 24th celebration will be able to stroll the historic Meetinghouse grounds where they may interact with black history reenactors, hear music derived from the experience of the enslaved or enjoy the sounds of a marching band. There will be vendors offering food, books, collectibles, and creations in wood and other media, plus exhibits and booths showcasing community pride and activism.
Free parking for the event will be available at Langhorne Heritage Farm, 222 North Green Street, Langhorne PA. There will be golf cart service to the Meetinghouse Grounds from the parking area.
Rain date for the Juneteenth Celebration is July 1st. Questions? Contact Juneteenth Organizer Brenda Cowan at 215-359-8616.
