FCNL Workshop: Solebury Friends Meeting

The Worship and Ministry Committee of Solebury Friends invites you to join them on Sunday, April 18th for Zoom worship at 10:00 am, followed by a special talk from FCNL at the rise of meeting at 11:15 am entitled The Roots and Branches of Quaker Advocacy.

Quakers have worked to influence the government almost as long as there have been Friends. Why has Quakerism and advocacy been so intertwined? What do the experiences of past Friends have to offer Quakers today concerned about our government’s decisions and actions? The Quaker writer and speaker Margery Post Abbott offers some thoughts in A Theological Perspective on Quaker Lobbying, published by FCNL and newly revised in 2020. Using this resource as a lens to approach these questions, we will explore the roots of Quaker advocacy, share our own experiences of inspired action, and reflect on how Spirit is leading us to witness today. OPTIONAL: For reflection and thinking in advance, Friends can download or request free physical copies of A Theological Perspective on Quaker Lobbying here: https://fcnl.org/quakerlobbying.

The workshop will be facilitated by Alicia McBride, FCNL Director of Quaker Leadership. Alicia McBride leads FCNL’s work to nurture, expand, and deepen relationships with Friends across the United States. She joined the FCNL staff in 2004.
