Bucks Quarter Friends will gather virtually under the care of Wrightstown Friends Meeting on Sunday, August 15. The day will begin at 10 am with the program: Compassionate Listening and the Art of Understanding. How can we listen to understand, instead of just listening to hear? How can we more empathetically see a person on “the other side” as a whole human being with emotions, values and a story – not necessarily as being just like us, but as being worthy of compassion? We will explore and practice this listening technique that can help us lean into difference and conflict instead of leaning away from it. This session will include background on Compassionate Listening, an explanation of how it can help us connect with one another, and an interactive practice session in breakout rooms.
The program will be facilitated by Kate Whitman Kamara, a member of Wrightstown Meeting and Director of Educational Programming at The Peace Center. In her role, Kate designs peace education programs for children, teens and adults. She holds an MA in International Peace and Conflict Resolution from Arcadia University, where she teaches mediation, conflict transformation and restorative practices as an adjunct professor.
The program will be followed by worship, lunchtime fellowship in break out rooms, then Meeting for Worship with Attention to Business. A link for supporting documents for meeting for business will be posted as soon as they are available.
