Bucks Quarterly Meeting of Friends will meet in person for our August Quarterly Meeting at the historic Plumstead Friends Meetinghouse at 4914-A Point Pleasant Pike. Friends should start to arrive by 9:30; there is plenty of parking available on their property.
The morning program will be a presentation entitled A Quaker Response to Indigenous Issues. The first speaker will be the clerk of the Quaker Fund for Indigenous Communities, a PYM granting group, that is dedicated to supporting and funding initiatives that sustain Indigenous communities and preserving Indigenous cultural heritage. They also serve as an educational resource for Friends seeking to understand Indigenous concerns better. The granting group considers requests from Native Americans for funds for a variety of interesting cultural, environmental, and economic projects.
The next speaker will be Arla Patch, a member of Doylestown Meeting, who will speak about her work as part of the Coalition of Natives and Allies. This group advocates for education in modern day Native issues, such as the harmful effects of stereotyping. The group recently shared their video Native Women and Allies Speak at Haverford College.
This program is a follow up to a presentation that Plumstead will be offering at 1:30 pm on July 23, when Adam Waterbear DePaul, Chief of Education and Tribal Storykeeper of the Lenape Nation of Pennsylvania, will be speaking about Lenape history. We encourage Friends to attend both events.
There will be a children’s program; registration is requested but not required. Click here for the registration form.
Meeting for Worship will be held from 11 am to 12 pm, followed by a brown bag lunch. Meeting for Worship with Attention to Business begins at 1:00 pm. We will hear annual reports from Middletown, Solebury, Southampton, Wrightstown and Yardley Meetings, an update from Bucks Food for Friends, as well as regular quarterly reports from the treasurer and Coordinator. We will also discuss the way our November Quarterly Meeting will be held – whether in person only or hybrid – at Quakertown Friends Meeting in Quakertown, NJ. Click here here for advance documents; we encourage Friends to print them out at home and bring them to Plumstead.
Friends from around the Quarter are encourage to join us for fellowship, worship and business! Come make some new Friends!
