Be on the lookout for the Camp Onas summer brochure, your ticket to a great time at Camp Onas, the Friends Camp in Bucks County. Returning campers, look in your mailbox for your registration form and brochure from Onas at the end of December. If you are interested in becoming a Camp Onas camper, check your Meeting for brochures in January or call Sue at 610-847-5858. Don’t delay. Camp Onas fills up quickly.
Young Friends Workcamp in Ireland
Though it’s early to think about next summer, Young Friends may want to explore the possibility of spending time this summer at a workcamp in Ireland. This four-week program (July 14-August 12) gives Young Friends ages 16-18, an opportunity to work with other Young Friends from the Americas, Europe and the Middle East. The ten mile Christmas Peace Pilgrimage from Nazareth to Bethlehem will take place on Saturday, December 11th. Meet in the parking lot at 520 E. Broad St, Bethlehem, PA, before 11:30 AM. Buses transport pilgrims to Nazareth Moravian Church on Center Square and pilgrims begin the walk to Bethlehem, visiting several churches along the way. The final stop, at 6 PM, provides supper and a rally. Reverend John Dear, executive director of Fellowship of Reconciliation, will speak on The Road to Peace in a New Millennium: Reflections on Nonviolence at the Turn of the Century. Season of Peace at Oxford Valley Mall
From Nov 20-Dec 18, Peace Center staff and volunteers will be on hand at Oxford Valley Mall to do face painting and help children create gifts. Entertainment, each Saturday from 10 AM-2 PM, will include puppeteers, musical acts, and storytelling. In addition, there will be the violent toy turn-in center where violent toys can be exchanged for creative, non-violent toys donated by Sesame Place and Sovereign Bank. United Friends School Seeks Head of School
United Friends School seeks a head of school beginning Aug. 1st. The ideal candidate will guide the school’s ongoing curricular evolution, bringing to the discussion enthusiasm and strength in innovative educational vision and practice. In addition, the candidate should have experience on consensus building and group facilitation, an appreciation for Quaker practice and a sense of humor. Some 4,500 innocent Iraqi children die each month as the result of US sanctions. Kouthar and Marwa Al-Rawi (ages 12 & 10) ask Friends to help them gather 1 million postcards to be sent to President Clinton demanding the end of the sanctions on Iraqi people for the sake of the children. Parents Helping Parents - A Support Group
The Bucks County Peace Centers provides parents with a chance to discuss the problems and stresses of raising children with help and guidance from other parents and the facilitators. The programs are on Monday evenings. There is no charge for the programs or childcare. All you have to do is show up. There are two locations: United Christian Church, 8525 New Falls Rd., Levittown, from 8-9:30 PM; and, Church of the Brethren, 1333 Cowpath Rd., Hatfield, from 7:30-8:30 PM. Grease at Bucks County Playhouse
Middle School and Young Friends are invited to see a live performance of Grease at the Bucks County Playhouse in New Hope on Saturday, December 18th, at 2 PM. Quaker Ecumenical Seminars in Theology
This three-day event on January 14-16 at State College Friends School offers an introduction to the discipline of theology for Quakers. Housing will be in nearby motels.
